Kennedy Conservation Area

The Conservation Commission purchased the two parcels making up the 50 acres in 1978 from A. Donald Kennedy (a former Selectmen of Dunstable) and Lucy D. Kennedy.

The backland lots were conveyed upon the express condition that the property be maintained as a natural forest and wildlife sanctuary to promote study and enjoyment of natural history and conserving natural resources. Recreational activities contributing to the health and education are permitted as long as they do not destroy the natural beauty or usefulness of the area as a wildlife refuge. The tract is to be preserved in its entirety and is not to be subdivided for offering parcels for sale. The property is to be used, managed, and preserved in the manner of the Spaulding Proctor Reservation.

The cutting and selling of timber or its by-products can be done with restrictions stated in the deed.

Access to the property is by the abandoned railroad bed. The property is bordered by Salmon Brook to the north and east, by Town owned land to the south and the railroad bed to the west.

The Kennedy Conservation area has been designated Core Habitat and Critical Natural Landscape.
